£2 Adventures in the Peak District

The best thing about being a student at the University of Sheffield is the small piece of plastic you get given when you enrol.

Sadly, I’m no longer a student at Sheffield and my UCard has expired. I think I’ll keep it a while longer and have a go at covering the expiry date with a thumb next time I go and get a bus in City of Steel. ..

On this piece of plastic, you might look like a 9-year-old fluff head. But it doesn’t matter because with this humble piece of plastic, you can get a return bus ticket into the Peak District for the bargain price of £2.

Just get the 271 or the 272 bus at the top of Ecclesall Road (the Endcliffe Park end) or else get the bus from the stop outside the Hallamshire Hospital. Get off at the Foxhouse Inn. And there you have it. Into the beautiful Peak District within half an hour for the cost of a chocolate bar.

I tried to get out into the Peaks as much as possible during my time at Sheffield. It’s really amazing to have such a wilderness at your doorstep and to be able to escape the hustle and bustle of the city at the drop of a pin. And it’s beautiful during every season, whether you go hunting for highland cows in the autumn…

Go hill running in the spring…

Or just fancy a snowy adventure on a cold winter’s day….

Whatever you’re in the mood for, the Peaks is the place to be. If you’re considering what university to go to, Sheffield’s proximity to the Peaks should be a massive factor to mull over if you love spending time in the great outdoors.

On that note, my friend Harry Yates made a short video of a trip we made to Hathersage at the end of exams last year. Enjoy!
