Rescuing the Reef

Most of the news we hear about coral reefs nowadays is gloomy. This is not surprising given how pollution, overfishing and bleaching events are blighting many of our planet’s most vital marine ecosystems. But there’s optimism to be had too. From the discovery of a new “Coral Supersite” holding the largest number of branching coral species found anywhere on the Great Barrier reef, to an increasing scientific understanding of what makes some corals more resilient than others.

Recently I produced a short documentary with my friend Sophy Crane and the inspiring marine biologist Jenna Rumney that tracks some of the more cheerful recent coral reef stories and explores the pioneering work of Great Barrier Reef Legacy in their race to rescue the reef.
