Understanding the economic and social importance of wood production

In many parts of the world, wood from forests and woodlots provides an absolutely critical source of fuelwood and materials, providing a key financial safety net during times of hardship, and underpining local construction and energy economies. We are beginning to work closely with Ethiopian collaborators to understand the role plantation- and forest-derived timber plays in local economies, and how this intersects with environmental outcomes and food security, including during periods of environmental stress.
